FACTS ABOUT TEA

  • 1 kg of freshly plucked tea (green-leaf) consists 2000 to 3000 “Two leaves and a bud” (new shoots).
  • 1 kg of Black Tea is produced with 4.5 kg of green leaf.
  • 20 to 25 kg green leaf harvested by a tea plucker per 8 hour shift.
  • A plucker would harvest approx.. 1/10th of a Hectare each day.( 1/4 acre)
  • Orthodox plucking is done by hand, only two leaves and a bud are plucked. So a lot of work goes into one cup of tea to achieve premier tea status.
  • Teas from High Elevations have more Flavor and more Antioxidants.

  • Polyphenol development is enhanced under slow growing conditions.
